Product Review Dislaimer: I was not paid for this review but I did get two free bags to test.
As anyone who is close to me knows, I love superfood supplements and when I was recently approached by Roni from Organic Meets Good (OMG!) to test some of their superfood powders, I was excited to try them out so they quickly sent me two bags to test, one Maqui and one Pomegranate and also they also kindly agreed to giveaway a couple bags to our awesome readers.
Naturally anything I test for my store or for a product review not only gets tested by me, but it has to pass the ‘kid test’. My girls are currently 3 and 7 and while accustomed to fairly healthy foods, they also have a strong resistance to anything that is too new, weird or ‘funny’ tasting. In my opinion, that makes them perfect test subjects.
I have never even heard of the Maqui Berry before but it turns out to be an incredibly potent superfruit from Chile with one of the hightest antioxidant contents known to man. The blend also contains Green Tea extracts and Acai berry for extra oomph. The second bag is a Pomegranate super vitamin blend. In addition to the powerful benefits of Pomegranate, the powder contains Camu Camu powder and Maqui Berry powder with other healthy extracts making it a vitamin powerhouse providing C, B12, iron, and potassium.
Of course, none of that matters if it tastes like crap. Luckily for us these superfoods taste like anything but. I loved them and both girls loved them too. In fact, Bianca (3) insists on having the stuff added to almost any glass of water or milk that she has.
The powder is silky, rich and finely ground. The aroma is powerful in a very good, strong, strawberrylicious kind of way. The pomegranate powder smells like concentrated strawberries without the acidity and I think the smell was part of the strong appeal to a 3 year old. The powder easily dissolved into any liquid we tried. Both powders are sweet but not overwhelmingly so, thanks to the addition of organic Stevia. Surprisingly good in plain water, both powders taste incredible in milk. In fact, it was so good in milk that it would make a great substitute for common, unhealthy strawberry and chocolate type milk powders that kids love.
We lost our raw milk connection awhile ago but when we find another source, I would love to try OMG! powders in homemade kefir, yogurt and ice cream. Recipes on the bag and website offer a number of other recipe ideas, many of which include baked goods like muffins. We are not a baking family but we might try it out in pancakes. I have a feeling it will be a hit just like the drinks.
Both the Pomegranate and the Maqui Powers are Organic, GMO Free and Vegan. They are also yummy, super healthy and kid approved. The current superfood powders are under $20 and available at Amazon.com.Want to try out a free bag of your own? Here is how you can win one:
