And the Baby Likes Wheatgrass!!

Babies Drinking Wheatgrass
I was pretty upset after Brielle’s pediatrician talked me into starting her on solids at four months because it was totally arbitrary and she was not physically ready. I just started shoving rice cereal (gag) in her mouth one day when all she needed or wanted was breastmilk.
Bianca has been eyeballing my food for awhile now and has even started to try to grab for whatever I am eating. Rather than give her that nasty, neon, jarred swill, I scrape bananas or avocados with a spoon. I also give her sauces or whatever else I happen to be eating that she doesn’t have to chew much.
I picked up these super cool frozen wheatgrass shots the other day at my favorite health food store . They are prepackaged in little sealed shots that you can just thaw and drink. They are exactly up my alley since I don’t have the time or energy to grow mold free wheatgrass at the moment (although I really do love growing and juicing my own). Needless to say, I was about to have a shot of my own and I decided to feed Bianca some on a spoon. I swear she would have drank the whole shot if I had let her. She loves it.
Since I live in a part of the United States where rather than drinking (or smoking) grass, you fertilize the hell out of grass and then mow, mow, mow…. I feel the burden to go out of my way to present a healthy lifestyle to my girls and that includes the wonderful benefits of grasses. Thankfully they make my job easier by loving the stuff.
In the interest of full disclosure, I hate the term “the baby” with a passion. I think it objectifies babies and I just don’t understand why people only start calling their babies by name when they are toddlers. I thought it was a funny title and also more search engine friendly in case anybody ever wonders if they can feed their baby wheatgrass.
In addition, I am generally very opposed to feeding babies solids prior to six months or more. I hate the fact that breastmilk alternatives are pushed on babies before they are ready. That said, I am an even stronger believer in common sense, instinctual parenting and baby led milestones. If my baby is telling me that she is ready for food, then she is most likely ready for food.

My kid will only drink breastmilk. No formula at all. I have to go back to work soon and I hope this changes.

I commend you for breastfeeding your daughter, (by the way love her name). I too did just that for 5 months with my first one and then slowly introduced her to solids. When they are ready, they’ll let you know!

There is so much conflicting information on whether to breast feed or go with formula. I tend to believe that the least amount of unnatural substance that we feed our kids the better. Thats why vaccinations are a tough subject for me as well.

I like your statement “stronger believer in common sense”, very true. Infact, if someone is experienced and apply her/his common sense to a situation, it always work 80% of the time. Additionally, it also shows your love and care for your child.

I love the title of your post. I also admire your potion when it comes to providing a great environment for your child.
We do want our children to have the best chance that they can it does start with us.
Wheatgrass has and always will be an excellent choice for naturally feeding ourselves, it has an awesome history and often times is overlooked because of it’s simplicity. Use it and use it often.
Your comment about “the baby” I found resonated with me I could never figure that one out either. Why would anyone identify a soul as an object.
Hey Thanks for the post you ROCK and keep on spreading the god stuff!

Great post. I don’t think doctors and health experts should ever forget that every baby is different and they develop differently. Babies know what they want and you can start them slowly with the transition from milk to solids but at the mother and baby’s pace, not when some book or site says they should. Each baby will be different.

My wife was worried about when to stop breastfeeding. She looked online, she read books and she asked her doctor. Eventually a friend told her to stop worrying about and let the baby decide. I thought that sounded like a load of rubbish but honestly it was amazing, the way our son seemed to just naturally start the transition from milk to solids after about 8 months.

It is a splendid article, one that touches the heart of any mother caring for her daughter, providing her needs. I have to say that at your baby’s stage,it’s too early for her to drink wheatgrass. I admire you for your effort of introducing to your children about healthy lifestyle at an early stage of their lives.
