Thanks so much for getting the word out on the Demonstration happening right now in Washington. Much appreciated. Gloria
Dear Gloria Lemay,
It is the least I can do to help. I only wish I could be there.
Maybe next year!
Mom Blogs – Blogs for Moms…
…
Thanks for letting everyone know about the event! I hope I can attend next year as well!!!
I will be there in spirit anyway….
Sheryl,
As you may know I wrote a blog about this for Eco Child’s Play (http://ecochildsplay.com/2009/02/23/11-reasons-not-to-circumcise). –I see you post comments there a fair amount.
As I’m sure you also know, this is a v. sensitive topic for many parents facing the choice (as you could see from the many many comments and much debate after that blog!). Some simply do it out of complacency (“everyone else is”), but for those who choose to leave their sons intact, we have to argue it. I had to be well-educated on it to get people to see that not circumcising could even be a viable option.
I feel like in the U.S., virility is such a huge issue for many men and they then “want their sons to look like them”. Strange that we decide to cut something off in the name of normalcy.
Thank you for posting about this; I didn’t know! I live in rural VA and will try to head north for this!
Cates last blog post..Genius Starts with “Sickly” Youths
Dear Cate,
Thanks for stopping by Cate! I love your blog and subscribe so I stop by often.
I am also baffled by the need to make their sons “look like them” or the the famed locker room argument. One of the quotes I keep on my blog is that “the worst thing about circumcision is that is creates circumcisers”. It is painfully true.
I am tickled pink that you might attend the demonstration. Please stop back and let me know if you go.
Is this something that Obama is on the badwaggon of? I’m sure as you will know he is a proponent of the neo-eugenics movement (Planned Parenthood and co.)
Davids last blog post..Free Fluid WordPress Themes and CSS Templates
Dear David@SEM Labs,
I have no idea what Obama’s stance on circumcision is, although I would love to know.
I gave it a Google and there was nothing on it really. I don’t really know much about this, although I would side with you as little shipper snappers don’t have the ability to say no. I have the same stance with cutting off animal’s bits – think that is terrible.
How does your store go? My friend also has an online store for baby items here in the UK and it doesn’t do to well for the traffic it gets. You look like you a re doing more specialist products though, so less competition
I declined to have my baby circumcised when I was asked. It was a quick no. “would you like to think about it ?” No ! I think a march is kind of going overboard, but the practice is pretty cruel.
Dear Kathy@orange county wrongful death attorney,
Would a march be “kind of going overboard” if the issue were female circumcision?
I truly had no idea how terrible circumcision could be. Before having my baby the hospital practically told me that I had to have my baby circumcised and gave me a form to fill out and sign. I didn’t know I had the option. Thanks for sites like this.
I never realized people were so against circumcision. Is there a reason why people are so against it?
Dear Scott@Chicago Attorney,
Seriously? What part of YOUR body should people rip or crush off without a valid reason, your consent or anesthesia? Human rights issue anyone????
Very tough subject.
I would really like to see a national poll on the matter, for and against.
I think the decision for circumcision should be respected. Most parents choose to circumcise their sons because of traditional or religon-related reasons. I am in full support of circumcision as long as the parents give the proper after care to help the child heal safely afterward. I am circumcised and couldn’t be happier with myself in that area.
Is it OK for parents to cut off their child’s ear as long as they take good care of the wound after the surgery?
Can i ask a questions related to circumcision. Is it true that other European countries forbidden circumcision?
I believe that Norway is taking steps to outlaw routine male circumcision.
@Sheryl – I don’t follow your analogy.
“mutilitiation and torment”? Cmon, this is a healty practice. Instead, of worry about this, why not protect our children from the violence prevelant on television and deadly chemicals in much of what we consume.
It’s about time the morons who advocate this apalling practice realised that the 21st century has arrived and that such dark age ritualistic nonsense should be consigned to the history books and then forgotten.
No-one, absolutely no-one has the right (outside of personal medical advice) to mutilate the genitals of a child, male or female. That governments continue to allow such rituals shows clearly that they are more concerned about preserving the revenue that circumcision creates than complying with the united nations resolution concerning the rights of the child (which every country has signed up to).
Absolutely! Thanks for a great comment.
I couldn’t agree more.
Thanks for letting us know and i am looking forward to tell others.
